We've compiled a list of the most anticipated upcoming new titles for Wii exercise and fitness, coming later in 2010. In many cases, you can pre-order the games, ensuring that you'll be first on line for the next big thing to boost your Wii Workouts!
2009 was a watershed year for Wii Fitness games. EA reported that it made $125 million from EA Sports Active, while the Wii and Wii Fit Plus from Nintendo of course are still flying off the shelves.
For this year, most publishers so far seem to be shying away from producing "pure exercise games", probably a good thing given the glut of mediocre titles that hit the market to try to cash in on the early craze. Let's hope that game publishers are using this time wisely, developing innovative new controls, better graphics, and fun exercise routines for their next generation of exercise games.
In the meantime, it is the Wii, so there are more traditional game titles on the way which do have potential for fitness and exercise. Here are some of the upcoming games that caught my eye. If Amazon provides pre-order links, I'll post them here (pre-ordering is highly recommended in case a game turns out to be a huge hit like Wii Fit was). As these games hit the market, I'll review them and post a review on my blog. And if the game turns out to be a winner, I'll add it to the Top Ten list. Likewise, games that are univerally panned by critics and customers will end up in the Wii Fitness Games to Avoid list.

The games here are listed in order of their anticipated release dates in 2010.
Set for release on November 16, EA Sports Active NFL Training Camp will be an extension of the highly successful line of EA Sports Active titles, featuring actual football drills and conditioning workouts as conducted in actual NFL training camps. It will feature over 70 drills and strength, power, and conditioning challenges, as well as games to build reaction skills, agility, and first step quickness. Developed in conjunction with the NFL, it's sure to be another winner in the EA Sports series.
Also slated for release on November 16 is EA Sports Active 2. EA Sports Active, of course, has been on the king of the kill of our Top 10 list for a long time now, so here's hoping that EA has put a lot of innovation and made a lot of improvements into the long-awaited sequel. From early reports, there's a lot to look forward to, from specially designed wireless transmitters (say goodbye to getting tangled in nunchuk wires) to an online portal to chart progress and interact with other exercisers, to a heart rate monitor, to a whole slew of new exercises. Pre-order your copy at Amazon, and you'll be first in line plus qualify for a special bonus.
Details are sketchy on this one, but it looks like D3, the publishers of a number of "shovelware" Wii games, is working on Family Party: Fitness Fun, an extension to their Family Party series that includes exercise and fitness elements. I'm not putting too much hope in this one, but hopefully they can surprise us.
Namco-Bandai has announced that Active Life Explorer, the follow-up to Active Life Outdoor Challenge and Active Life Extreme Challenge, will be released in the fall. Their first release was a phenomenal game, the second one a little less so. Let's hope they can recapture the fun and appeal of the original.
Seems that the popularity of Just Dance has spawned a new influx of dancing games that use actual choreography. Gold's Gym Dance Workout, to be released in August 2010. In addition to learning real dance moves with a trainer, mini-games will feature rodeo bull riding, karate, rowing, kangaroo boxing, and sword fighting.
Another company to react to the popularity of Just Dance is Konami, the company that introduced active dance games to the world with Dance Dance Revolution. They'll be releasing another sequel in November 2010, but unlike the last two versions for the Wii, this one appears to be a "reboot" of the series, focusing on real dance moves.
Something many of you have been clamoring for is a Zumba game on the Wii. Your wishes have been heard: Majesco will be releasing Zumba Fitness in October 2010. If you haven't seen the infomercials, Zumba is a fitness craze using real latin-style dancing.
Of course, Ubisoft will be coming up with a follow-up to Just Dance themselves called Just Dance 2. From early screenshots, it looks like it'll be pretty much the same as the first version, with new songs by the likes of Rihanna, the Pussycat Dolls, Vampire Weekend, and James Brown. Hopefully they will also invest in improving the motion controls as well--poor motion controls could be forgiven in the first one, but with all the looming competition, they'll want to improve it for the second one.
2KPlay and Nickelodeon have announced a game called Nickelodeon Fit, due to be released in the Fall, for children to exercise along with their favorite characters Dora, Diego, Kai-Lan, and the Backyardians. The game is being developed in collaboration with a physical fitness expert.
The Biggest Loser Challenge
is THQ's follow-up to The Biggest Loser. Details are still sketchy on this one, but one new feature will be "Freedom of Movement", which will let you choose to work out without the controller if you wish. Expect more personalized attention from Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels, as well as Balance Board support.
Shawn Johnson Gymnastics is due to be released in November, 2010. It was designed by Zoo Games in conjunction with Johnson, and will include support for the balance board and will be a realistic simulation of gymnastics you and your children can play in your own house.
Set for release January 1, 2011, UFC Trainer will introduce more of a combat feel to the fitness genre than all the sissy games before it. Here's hoping THQ can pull of a game that's both fun and provides great fitness.
